BUSH BEAT: January to March, 2006VISION 2006 TO LAUNCH OPERATION RESCUE With just 2 hours before my departure from Mozambique on Dec. 13, I met with the State's Program Director of Social Services. We revealed our 2006 plan which included rescuing 500 orphans in very remote areas north and west of our current mission in Balama. Social Services know that O. U. is a small organization, but asked if we would consider helping some orphans in a very desperate situation. Eric Dry, my Associate Director, & I listened as he explained the horrible plight of an additional 2,000+ orphans in Meloco District (county) 100 miles north of our Balama base. The problems: --Dirty water has provoked rampant dysentery (diarrhea), killing many children and mothers and resulting in large numbers of orphans. --Elephants are coming out of the huge Niassa game reserve to eat and destroy any crops grown by the remaining mothers, provoking severe malnutrition. --Social Services' exhausted their limited funds to help these kids, and no large aid organization is willing to help as caring for orphans is a long-term project. It is truly an unreached area. A quick calculation showed it would take a MINIMUM of $330,000 to launch a rescue! That, my friends, is much more than our entire yearly budget, but we serve a BIG GOD, so Eric and I told the Lord: WE ARE WILLING TO GO, LORD, so if YOU want us to do this, please provide a large diesel truck for hauling the 400 TONS of corn and beans it would take to feed them for a year. As Eric took me to the airport, a quick stop at Toyota revealed that a 4-ton diesel sells for $40,000. We decided to tell NO ONE of our need, so we would truly know that it was God if the truck was provided. I left for the USA, not knowing that my next Jesus Adventure was on the horizon. JESUS BLESSES THE LITTLE CHILDREN My secretary, Karen, calls me on Christmas Eve. Sit down Brenda. We have just received a $20,000 check from a retired couple in Georgia! To be used for most urgent need. Receiving a check of this size was a FIRST for our ministry. I’m stunned, and hope blossoms. On Jan. 1, 2006 I was at a family reunion when I am handed a contribution for $5,000 to be used for our most urgent need. On Jan. 3rd, a check for $15,000 was received from an Ohio couple to be used as needed... TOTAL: $40,000! The price of a 4 ton truck! We had no doubts that this was God’s answer. Orphans Unlimited is to reach a 100 miles deeper into the bush, & open a program to save over 2,500 children. Note: In March, another missionary led us to a dealer who blessed us with a brand new 6-TON diesel which included a small crane on the back for just $4,000 more! (This amount had just been received in an offering by our New Braunfels, TX church.) The truck is being licensed and will be delivered FREE of charge by a Mozambican transport company in early April. WE PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS AWESOME PROVISION OF MORE THAN WHAT WE ASKED FOR! SAN ANTONIO BANQUET LAUNCHES OPERATION RESCUE Radhika (Rad) Mittapalli has worked with us in Mozambique for the last 3 years. Her experience and skills are amazing and include the organization of banquet fund raisers. She agreed to leave Moz. in December to help me with this monumental task, as we would need to raise food money sufficient for buying 400 tons of food by JUNE. THE RESULT: We received funding commitments sufficient to begin work on Phase One of Operation Rescue—2006. We praise God for these gifts and trust that He will provide the substantial financial resources necessary to complete this work.
