BUSH BEAT: April 2004

NEWLYWEDS HIT THE MINISTRY TRAIL

Feb. 7th, 2004 started a WHOLE NEW AFRICAN ADVENTURE for Gerald and I as we pledged our lives to each other. The wedding and reception were AWESOME as relatives and friends whom I hadn't seen in over 20 years came for the DOUBLE HEADER. ( my parent's 50th wedding anniversary and our wedding.) GERALD and I WANT TO EXTEND OUR SINCERE LOVE and GRATITUDE TO ALL OF YOU WHO GAVE INTO OUR "MISSIONS CONSTRUCTION FUND" ! YOUR LOVE GIFTS HAVE PROVIDED THE $5,000 FOR THE HOUSE CONSTRUCTION WITH A FEW DOLLARS LEFT OVER FOR FURNITURE.

Feb. 8th found us honeymooning in Phoenix, AR where we enjoyed 4 days of hiking in the desert mountains. My life seems one long adventure and this week was no exception. While hiking at Natural Bridge at Payson, AR where icicles hung from the waterfalls and snow lined the paths, I slipped crossing a stream. Falling to my knees in icy water was a real shocker!

Gerald grabbed my arms to divert further disaster, but my 4 month old right shoulder repair wasn't ready to pull my weight out of the water. The bicep muscle ripped and inflammation set in causing weeks of agony. With MUCH PRAYER and a few drugs, it has healed up pretty well. I will see my surgeon in S. Africa in May. Keep those prayers coming as it is not working as well as it should be.

On the last day of our honeymoon, while hiking through the Superstition Mountains, we met a group of Christian "snow birds". This was the first of many DIVINE APPOINTMENTS by the Lord, for no matter where we traveled this trip, God arranged HIS CONTACTS for us. This group, like so many other new friends, are taking our new movie and book to share with others.

SHARING OUR VISION WITH OTHERS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST BLESSINGS YOU CAN GIVE OUR KIDS. (see instructions below)

ILLINOIS CHRISTIAN BAND CATCHES VISION FOR MISSIONS Our friends, the Gondas, took our movie to a Christian band that plays in Chicago and the 4 surrounding states. God had already spoken to the band leaders about getting involved in missions, but they didn't know who they were to support. DID I MENTION THAT GOD'S TIMING IS ALWAYS PERFECT? They adopted us, Orphans Unlimited, and are now in the planning stages to put their words into action. THEIR MISSION? To help us rescue the starving orphans and widows with kids in ZAMBIA.

Zambia, like Mozambique, has a mega problem as AIDS is killing off the adults, leaving the innocent children to fend for themselves. THE U.N. ESTIMATES THAT AIDS IN AFRICA WILL PRODUCE 12 MILLION MORE ORPHANS IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS. AFTER HEARING THAT, I BETTER UNDERSTOOD WHY GOD NAMED US ORPHANS UNLIMITED.

Gerald and I are a little nervous as to what the Lord has in store for us in the near future. We are well aware that when the Lord united us, trained orphanage managers with 20 years experience between us, that He had something big in mind! We realize that we will have to be separated for short periods of time in order to get the work done. We need your prayers, as the road ahead will not be easy, and we will need the help of many more full and part time missionaries for HIS PLAN to be full filled. WE GO FORTH IN FAITH KNOWING THAT EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE WITH GOD!

Those that heard us speak this trip know that it is TIME TO UNITE and BRING IN THE HARVEST, FOR THE FIELDS ARE RIPE!

TOGETHER WE CAN DO WHAT MAN SAYS IS IMPOSSIBLE. We can rescue the innocent of Africa and train them into God's army so that THEY CAN BRING IN THE FINAL HARVEST OF SOULS.

WE HAVE MINISTERED IN OVER 40 CHURCHES OR SMALL GROUPS IN 9 STATES ON THIS TOUR, and HAVE REAPED OVER 500 NEW FRIENDS WHILE ENJOYING THE FELLOWSHIP OF OUR FAITHFUL FRIENDS FROM PREVIOUS TRIPS.

HOSPITALITY where ever we went was AWESOME! Gerald and I want to thank everyone for BLESSING OUR TIME WITH YOU. Living out of a suitcase as we traveled for the first 10 weeks of our married life has been stressful.

Your loving kindness and "scheduled RandR" have been GREATLY APPRECIATED and much needed. It's always a sad time as our USA visit comes to an end.

BACK TO AFRICA As we complete our USA tour in Orlando, FL (April 20-25th), Gerald and I
will be ministering via interpreters in 6 churches with many Brazilian and Cuban members. We return to TX for 3 days of packing (our newest hobby), before flying to London for 3 days of speaking with interested British churches. On May 5th, we will arrive in S. Africa to begin our NEXT ADVENTURE, shopping for a year's supplies for the mission station!

Joy, joy, more packing! Our newest team member, Eric Dry, will be hauling up these supplies in his pick-up and trailer in June.

Plans for 2004 include building 2 houses on the mission property to accommodate the new team members coming to help us as well as starting to organized the massive Zambia project which already has 250 kids. Eric Dry, diesel mechanic, computer expert, electrician, plumber, and evangelist Radhika Mittapali, training into my orphanage management position for Balama, so that I am free to travel with Gerald to work in other countries. Sarah Boley, children's worker with 5 years experience in missions in Belgium. 6 week visitors in June will be Heidi, a social worker from TX and Judy a preschool teacher from Montana. It will be a year of training others and preparing for the final push to bring in God's harvest.

YOU CAN MULTIPLY YOUR BLESSING TO US BY SHARING OUR VISION WITH THOSE YOU KNOW. IT'S SIMPLE!!!! GET OUR NEW 35 MINUTE MINISTRY FILM, AFRICAN ADVENTURES and show it at your church, to your friends or other interested groups. THOSE WHO SAW IT ON OUR TOUR WERE AWE STRUCK with the reality it shows.

THIS VERY PROFESSIONAL FILM MADE IN JULY, 2003 IN MOZAMBIQUE, SHOWS EVERY TYPE PROGRAM OUR MOZ. MINISTRY IS DOING PLUS MUCH MORE. I get very transparent in the movie and "tell it like it is for single women missionaries".

HOW TO ORDER: DVD or VHS for $10 ( Must specify type) Send cheques made to ORPHANS UNLIMITED to: P.O. Box 131 Wharton, TX 77488

THE MORE PARTNERS INVOLVED, THE MORE WE CAN DO FOR JESUS!
