BUSH BEAT: April 2007
CHOLERA OUTBREAK IN BOTH COUNTIES WE SERVE
Eric Dry, O.U.'s Associate Director in Mozambique, wrote me on March 15th that 3 of the orphans in the Meluco District (Op. Rescue) had been hospitalized with cholera. People in Balama District were also being diagnosed with it. It is very unusual for cholera to break out this time of year, as it usually strikes in the peak of the dry season when water levels are low. We are at the end of the rainy season now & all water wells are full.
Cholera is caused by a bacteria found in dirty water. It kills within a few days by causing excessive diarrhea & vomiting. The body dehydrates, leading to an electrolyte imbalance that stops the heart.
Sadly, one of our orphans died this week. I'm returning on April 9th with medicines to help stop this deadly disease in case any more of our kids pick it up.
PUR APPROVED FOR DISTRIBUTION BY DEPT. OF HEALTH!
"PUR" is a powder developed by Proctor & Gamble that kills harmful
bacteria in dirty water. Developed for 3rd world countries, one tiny
packet cleans 10 liters of water, making it safe to drink in 20 minutes.
This is a GREAT BLESSING for the orphans & widows in Meluco District where water is so scarce.
O.U. received a donation of 100,000 packets of PUR last November, but had to await government clearance to get it into Mozambique. Thanks to UNICEF's help, we now have that permission. It is being flown in by UNICEF free of charge from Europe, & should be in our hands by late April.
WATER WELL DRILLING DELAYED
Due to new laws just passed in Moz., it is very complicated & could take over 1 year to get a drilling license. To avoid this delay, the State Director of Water Works has given us permission to drill provided we find a ministry or aid organization that would let us work under their license.
We have approached several large ministries working in Mozambique, & are awaiting answers.
GOD WILL OPEN THIS DOOR as it is HIS MANDATE for us to cut the problems causing the every increasing orphan problem in Mozambique.
Please keep your prayers coming for our kids & all these water related programs. CLEAN DRINKING WATER is the key to bringing health to the children.
We stand on Joshua 1:5 that says "No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life." The Lord gave me this scripture when he sent me into this area in 1999, & He has shown his mighty power in every challenge we have faced.
BUNNY COMPLETES USA TOUR
Much thanks to the many churches, private groups, & friends who hosted me on this 6 state tour. It was great making new friends, & visiting those who have faithfully given to our children over the last 16 years.
We gratefully acknowledge The Tulsa World newspaper which ran a half page story with photos about our work in Mozambique.
THE WAY CHURCH in Owasso, OK, had me as a guest on their weekly TV program. It was filmed for translation, & will air for 4 weeks in the country of Iran in April. My testimony & 2 faith building stories from my book "African Adventures" were told in order to show these new believers THAT GOD IS STILL DOING MIRACLES TODAY! Please keep them in your prayers.
BUSH BUNNY HEADING SOUTH
I'm off to Africa on April 9th & will be back in Mozambique on April 14th.
I've really enjoyed this tour, but it's time for this Bush Bunny to get back to her kids, & start hopping down those bush trails again.
TOGETHER WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE BECAUSE WE SHARE GOD'S LOVE!
Blessings, Bush Bunny Brenda
