BUSH BEAT: May 2007FOOD BUYING TO START MAY 25TH IT'S A MIRACLE! The local government has approved our license to buy corn 1 week BEFORE the commercial people are allowed to buy. In my 7 years in Balama, that's never been allowed! WHY THE HURRY? WE ARE THANKING JESUS AHEAD OF TIME FOR FILLING OUR WAREHOUSE TO OVERFLOWING! Commercial buyers who want to export the corn to India will be here in June, so it is ESSENTIAL that we bring in as much corn as we can as fast as we can. Most of the harvest will probably be bought before mid July. Our well trained crews & ALL 4 of our vehicles will be working 6 days a week starting May 25th in order to bring in the harvest. Keep us in your prayers as this is no easy task. MINIMUM NEEDED TO FEED OUR 1,200 ORPHANS FOR A YEAR: 180 tons of corn & 50 tons of beans (Your Love Gifts have already provided the funds to buy this, so help us pray it in.) We are praying for AN ABUNDANCE of funds to be provided above this amount, as there will be much hunger this year. WE HAVE ASKED THE LORD FOR AN ADDITIONAL 137 TONS OF CORN & 29 TONS OF BEANS. WHY? So we can rescue the remaining 950 orphans we had to leave behind in 2007. FUNDS ARE NEEDED IMMEDIATELY if we are to buy this extra food by the END OF JUNE. HOW CAN YOU HELP? INVEST IN A LIFE, & ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO HELP TOO! We've asked the Lord to lay this need on the hearts of 950 people. A $120 GIFT WILL RESCUE AN ORPHAN FOR A YEAR. THIS ONE TIME LOVE GIFT will provide a child with 2 meals a day, 2 set of clothes, soap, & school materials. TOGETHER WE ARE CHANGING A NATION BY BRINGING THE LOVE OF JESUS (IN WORD & DEED) TO HURTING CHILDREN. 3 ORPHANS BECOME ENGLISH TRANSLATORS Rafique will graduate 10th grade in November, & wants attend a very good Bible School directed by a missionary in Pemba when classes open in January, 2008. Sergio also wants to become a pastor when he graduates in Nov., 2008. Faustino desires to become a master mechanic like his "Uncle Eric" (our Associate Director & the only "Dad" these kids know). THE FRUIT OF YOUR LOVE IS RIPENING. THE 3 YOUNG MEN ASKED ME TO SAY "THANKS FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE". (They are sitting behind me studying their English as I'm writing this.) WATER WELL DRILLING MACHINE HAS BEEN PURCHASED! PUR IS ON IT'S WAY! MUCH THANKS TO JOHN EDMONDSON OF PURE COMPASSION MINISTRIES for getting it donated & shipped to us. Eric Dry, O.U.'s Associate Director in Balama, has just picked up the first load of PUR in Malawi. More will be shipped in soon via Maputo & trucked up to us. TWO BOYS & A HANDFUL OF ROCKS BRING TRAGEDY TO THE WHOLE VILLAGE A huge family of honey bees flying through Balama, turned on a bunch of kids right behind our largest orphan house. Two village boys were seen throwing rocks at the bees which had congregated in a mango tree. Pastor Luis raced to my house yelling for my help. Our kids escaped to safely inside our houses, but two little brothers from down the street, ages 2 & 3, were swarmed by the bees. The 3 year old boy collapsed behind our orphan's house, & was rushed to the local hospital by a neighbor who had a bicycle. His head & shoulders were covered in bee stings. The 2 year old had run into a neighbor's mud hut. We could hear him screaming. Anyone trying to get near him was attacked. I tried to walk into the area, but bees began attacking the back of my head, so I backed off. Amazingly, I suffered no stings, but many others did. Then I saw a very brave neighbor make it into the hut by hiding under a large cotton feed sack which covered most of his upper body. When he walked out with the boy in his arms, I raced to my truck. The man jumped in the back of my truck with the boy, & we took off for the hospital, outrunning the bees that were attacking them. This little one had more than 100 bee stings covering his head, shoulders, & arms. Sadly, he lived only a few hours. The parents are not believers (yet), but we assured them he is safe in the arms of Jesus. The 3 year old survived the attack & is now back home. Since last year we have been teaching our Sunday School kids that our actions & decisions always have consequences. We emphasized that YOUR ACTIONS (good or bad) can affect those around you. That day, the action of 2 boys affected the entire village, & made this lesson very real to all of them. We hope the lesson never needs repeating. HELPING HANDS ON THEIR WAY A North Carolina Team is coming in June to assist with the food buying & orphan programs. WE LOVE & APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU! Send LOVE GIFTS to: Or donate online now.
