BUSH BEAT, June 2010

LOOK WHAT YOUR LOVE HAS DONE!
Because of your generosity, 457 TONS of corn, 66 TONS of beans, and 17 TONS
of rice
will bless the hungry children in Balama and Meluco counties this year!
Our food buying experiences are best explained via the photos.
It is the most stressful time of
year for us as we work 14 hours a day, 6 days a week in June. But it is very
rewarding
knowing that our hard work will save the lives of 1000’s of kids.
WHAT COMES IN MUST GO OUT, so we begin the food distribution to over
1000 orphans in
counties on July 8th.
Many newly orphaned children will benefit from our
program this year in remote parts of these 2 counties
that we have been unable to reach before. Better
roads and stronger bridges make this possible.
The corn is pushed into a steep chute where gravity
forces it to slide under the sprayer that debugs the
food before it drops into a bag at the bottom of the
chute.
Without this process, the stored bags of corn would
soon be eaten up by the dreaded “MEALIE BUG”.
Louis Gervais timed his men and they processed 1
sack of corn (110 lbs) per minute. We normally
processed 25 to 28 tons in 7 hours with 2 chutes.
Our work crew totaled 80 men.
Born November 8, 2009, Deonilda’s
mom died from complications in child
birth and was being raised by her
grandmother. After 3 months of
walking 16 miles every 2 weeks to fetch
milk formula for the baby, the
grandmother requested that we raise
Deonilda as the baby’s needs were too
much for this frail little woman to bear.
Weighing only 8.8 lbs. at 6 months,
Deonilda was very underweight. After
2 months in our care, this bubbly
bundle of joy now weighs 12 lbs. at 8
months. Her smiles and laughter melt
the hearts of all who meet her.
Dominga, shown here with foster
mother, Balbina, (please see pdf for
photos) was constantly sick when we received her in May. Social
Services removed her from her
mother’s home due to neglect. It is not
uncommon in the African culture for
the mother to favor one twin, giving
most of the formula to her favorite. In
our care, Dominga has gained over 2.5
lbs. since May. She truly relishes the
love that is showered on her by Balbina
and the other orphans in her new
home.
Both of these JESUS GEMS need
sponsors at $50/month for the next 6-8
months. Baby formula is $5/can and
both these babies need 6 cans a month
plus other food, clothing, and lots of
care.
TANZANIAN ORPHANAGE RESCUING 2-5 YEAR OLD GIRLS FROM SLAVE TRADERS
In April, I told you how little girls were being sold into the slave trade
in Tanzania. Getting an orphanage license
and clearance to receive little girls has not been as easy as we were led to
believe, thus the delay in getting the girls
into our care. Thanks to the hard work of Jerry and Tammy Backus, our missionary
partners in Tanzania, the doors
to the 6 bedroom home are now open and the first 2 girls have been approved.
Documents for 8 more little girls are
in progress. Our goal is to rescue 24 orphan girls this year, as that is maximum
capacity for the home we have rented.
Once funding is available, we hope to obtain farmland to build a larger facility
for rescuing orphans of all ages.
THE FIRST RESIDENTS of our girl’s home are 4 year old twins, Riski
and Liliani Kiseve. Both parents are deceased,
and they have been sleeping at their aunt’s home who has 5 children herself,
and little time for these orphans.
Spending many hours unsupervised on the streets, puts them at HIGH RISK to
be kidnapped by slave traders. The
girls’ plight became known when they wandered into the Saturday Children’s
Church that Jerry started in their
neighborhood. These 2 precious JESUS GEMS also need sponsors at $40/month.
VICTORY BIBLE CLASSES NOW IN PORTUGUESE!
Victory Christian Center in Tulsa has now translated their powerful Bible
courses into Portuguese. These very same classes
planted the Word of God into my heart, transforming me from a baby Christian
to a “ready to hit the field” missionary in 2
years. Providing the same materials to our pastors and interns will greatly
strengthen our spiritual outreaches. The Pastor
teaching the Balama course couldn’t stop shouting “PRAISE THE LORD” every
few minutes while watching the first DVD
class. Having taught the Bible for many years, Pastor Alberto says he’s
now in graduate school with all he is learning. Thirty
four men and women begin classes on July 12th.
OUR 7 BUSH CHURCHES are growing
at a rapid rate and more pastors
are desperately needed.
YOUR LOVE for our children never ceases to bless us here in Mozambique.

PLEASE WRITE ME!
Many stopped writing knowing I was too busy to answer in June.
I’ve missed your letters, so let your fingers do the walking on that
keyboard!
LOVE YOU ALL!
