THE RAINY SEASON HAS HIT US!
As I write, lightning is flashing and thunder is rolling, as rain drops tap on my tin roof. It’s a nice sound as long as one is safely INDOORS when all this happens. The cooler weather that hits while it is raining is a welcome relief from the hot temps and high humidity. Great thing about our rains is that is mostly rains in the afternoons or at night, giving us the mornings to tend to our work load.
The BBC motorbike team is completely outfitted with rain jackets and pants for they usually go out in the early morning dry, but sometimes get back when it is already raining. So DE BUNNY and her marvelous staff and Pastors will keep doing the Lord’s work as weather permits.
KIDS AND NOISE GO TOGETHER, AS OUR YOUTH PUMP WATER, MAKE JOKES, AND HAVE A GREAT TIME AT OUR WATER WELL.
GENONO (JEN-NO-NO), THE OLDEST OF OUR CHURCH MEMBERS, WALKED 3 MILES TO BRING ME 4 NEW BASKETS HE’D MADE.
I was so surprised when I looked up from my work at our corn barn to see Genono slowly walking towards me. This jolly old timer has no idea how old he is, but he loves Jesus with all his heart!
When he could not walk at all, and everyone thought he would surely die, JESUS RAISED HIM UP! I was there when Genono was carried by friends to our first church meeting under a tree in Rovuma village. (Sound a bit like the lame man lowered through the roof by friends so Jesus could lay hands on him?) GENONO HEARD AND BELIEVED what we told him about JESUS THE HEALER, and by the time church was over, Genono was DANCING TO THE LORD! The group of men who attended, all non-believers, left IN SHOCK!!!! It was a great healing miracle and this “young” old man is still shuffling along today (10 years later).
Genono is still an active farmer, but his hoe was completely worn out. Just a nub of metal on a stick, as he carried it with him today to show me.
He makes his living in the “off season” of farming by making these beautiful baskets that our foster mothers dearly love. I expect he planned to buy a new hoe with the money from his baskets. When I fetched him a new hoe from our stock, along with payment for his baskets, he began to clap and tears were running down his face. A big Genono hug, which he is famous for, was my reward. Seeing his JOY was all it took to “make my day”.
Our pick-up truck took him home as my driver was fetching our brick layers who were repairing the Pastor’s house in his village.
This man is a walking miracle who loves the Lord with all his heart.
FRUIT HARVESTED FROM THE LOVE YOU SEND SO WE CAN SHARE IT WITH OTHERS.

KEEP OUR STAFF IN YOUR PRAYERS:
OUR TRUCKS KEEP ROLLING! THE BALAMA TEAM DISTRIBUTED 12 TONS of food in 2 days this week to 315 orphans and the 99 widows who care for them. LONG DISTANCE DRIVER MANUEL AND HIS 2 MAN TEAM TRANSPORTED another 210 sacks (12.6 TONS) to Meluco this week to completely fill that orphan warehouse for the rainy season. (P.S. Construction has begun to repair the bridge that is out before the rains start. We are very grateful for that!) DRIVER GENITO helped out the hospital for the whole week by driving vaccination teams to many remote villages. Every child in the county from 5 to 14 years received deworming medicine. We totally support this for my motto is: “We don’t feed worms, we feed kids!” As you can see from the above list, my week was consumed by loading, loading, and more loading of trucks with the food and other supplies needed to feed all these orphans. My days started at 3a.m. most of this week for the trucks had to roll out by 4 a.m. to get to the distribution sites. Sunrise is now at 4:40 a.m. Seven Ton and six ton trucks loaded and ready to roll out for Wednesday’s give out. Thinking the trucks were “easy pickings”, a thief jumped our back fence to “sample” the produce! A thief jumped our back fence on Tuesday for he knew we had trucks loaded with food sitting at my house. He ran when he saw 2 guards moving in on him. Nothing was stolen, but it served as a good reminder to keep alert to our surroundings for the devil’s workers are on the prowl. The construction crew is working to raise the final ring beam of rebar that secures the windows, doors, and walls of Orphan House #3. No grass grows under our feet, for October is the last of the dry months. Rainy season due to begin in November. BUSH BUNNY TO WALK WITH LIONS IN RSA My friend, Sister Ligia (Lisha) from Equador, and I will travel to RSA on Oct. 11th for it is time for my annual routine medical/dental consults. Ugh. In the midst of all that, Ligia and I will squeeze in a few days “rest” at a very UNIQUE place called Horseback Africa. They specialize in allowing people ON HORSEBACK to view their game park which hosts only “safe animals”. No big 5 in this place for lions and leopards see horse meat as their CHOCOLATE! Horseback Africa is also a refuge for raising ORPHANED LIONS. Sister Ligia and I will be allowed to bottle feed baby lions, and take the young teenage lions for an hour’s walk in the bush with guides of course. Needless to say, God has blessed us with a very unique place to go relax for a few days. I will take lots of photos as we ride among the animals. They have GIRAFFES which are my favorite. My goal is to hopefully walk my horse with the giraffes as they feed in the trees. I was blessed once by getting to drive beside a young male giraffe in the wild as he loped along beside my pick-up on the highway in Zimbabwe. There is nothing more beautiful than being in unison with God’s Creation in the wild, the way HE meant it to be from the beginning. KEEP OUR STAFF IN YOUR PRAYERS CANDID CAMERA IN MOZAMBIQUE: Caught a snap shot of our children’s choir as they practice for Sunday’s service. Office manager, Capena, will be in charge while I’m away for 2 weeks. He and our entire staff are very capable caretakers of the children, but we do need your prayers for protection. The locals do watch our every move and they are well aware when I am away. We add more guards when I’m away, but there is nothing better than God’s Guards as a hedge of protection. EVIL LOSES TO PRAYERS OF FAITH
At 2 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, thieves broke into Manuel’s home. Manuel is our long distance truck driver, and he was in Meluco District on an overnight run to deliver food to the 520 orphans in that area. Manuel’s wife totally depends on that motorbike for her job as she teaches school in a village 15 km from Balama. We are very thankful that the thieves did not harm anyone during the robbery, but the loss of the bike was a horrible blow to this family. With Manuel gone, the YOUTH GROUP from his church, some of them members of our BBC team, met at his home to pray. They specifically asked the Lord to show them “where the bike was hidden”. Most times, stolen bikes are taken to another town and immediately sold, making them very difficult to recover. GOD ANSWERED QUICKLY for out of nowhere, a man they didn’t know showed up at Manuel’s gate. He told the Youth group that he saw a man PUSHING a motorbike past his home at 2:15 a.m. The man showed them where he saw the man going, so the men started talking to everyone on that road. When they got near our construction site for Orphan House #3, the night guard came forward to say that HE SAW A MAN PUSHING A BIKE into a fenced yard not far from where we are building orphan house #3! The Youth members and police went to that house and recovered the bike! Folks, I can tell you that this is a GOD THING for sure! It just doesn’t happen that a stolen bike is recovered so easily and in only 6 hours! TALK ABOUT A FAITH LESSON! All of us were super encouraged, and it showed our many “doubting Thomas” staff members that God truly answers prayer. It was the talk of the whole community that day, making both the saved and unsaved “take notice” of God’s power to answer prayer! PROVENTIAL DIRECTOR OF HEALTH VISITS BALAMA IT WAS OUR PLEASURE TO WELCOME THE DIRECTOR OF HEALTH. Senhora Directora Anastancia Lidimba toured the Balama health facilities on Friday. She requested to personally meet with me for she wanted to know who this “Brenda” is who helps the Balama hospital. We assist in many little ways, and will be providing a Land Cruiser and driver this next week to help distribute deworming medicine to all the children in Balama District. For the hospital staff to accomplish this massive feat in 30+ villages in 5 days (over 50,000 children in the target group), the Balama Hospital Director calls on everyone with transport who lives or works in the District to help transport the medical teams to the villages. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting this joyful and very powerful woman, who has the responsibility of overseeing every medical facility in Cabo Delgado’s 17 districts. BUSH BUNNY TIDBITS HANDING OUT SALT TO WIDOWS WHO CARE FOR ORPHANS. 1. Capena, office manager and my very versatile “right hand man” along with the Balama food distribution team spent the week gifting over 25 tons of corn and beans to 577 orphans in 15 remote villages. ORPHANS AND WIDOWS, HEADING HOME FROM FOOD DISTRIBUTION. 2. Manuel made 2 trips to Meluco District (9 hour drive each way) to provide the corn and beans needed to support these children through the fast approaching rainy season (Nov.) He will make another 3 loads this coming week, to complete the amount of food needed until May, 2018. WHY THE RUSH? A main bridge is out on the only road leading to our Meluco mission station. To get there, Manuel drives through a deep river bed on a temporary road of large rocks that provides trucks a dry season crossing. Once the rains begin, that option will literally be under water. This large bridge has been repaired twice after the last 2 rainy seasons, but each rainy season this river receives even larger amounts of fast moving water that damages it again. To say the least, it has been a hectic but rewarding week. Keep your prayers coming. Blessings, Bush Bunny Brenda Lange And the Balama staff NOTE: REMEMBER OUR NEW ADDRESS: ORPHANS UNLIMITED, INC 562 S. HWY 123, BYPASS, #301 SEGUIN, TX 78155 |

BABIES GALORE!
We’ve received 9 orphaned babies into our formula program in the last 2 weeks. (7 single births, 1 set of twins). TWENTY of the 24 babies in our infant program are cared for by their grandmothers or aunts, living with family in their home villages. They come each Thursday to “weigh in” and receive their formula allotment. A lifesaving blessing that YOUR LOVE GIFTS provide. Three of the infants are living in our foster homes because no family member can care for them. Our youngest, Jacinta, reminds me of a little China doll. She is almost a 30 days old now, and is quickly gaining weight. NO GRASS GROWING UNDER OUR FEET Our construction crew have wasted no time in getting the new orphan house above window level in the last week. Our carpenters are busy making the door and window frames which will be installed as soon as the walls are up to the 2 meter (6.5 ft.) level. Orphan House #3 is rising quickly.
BBC, (Bush Bikers for Christ) help maintain our perimeter fence.
NEW CHURCH OPENS IN REMOTE VILLAGE JAMIRA VILLAGE, 42 km (25 miles) from our base, is now the most remote of all our Balama churches. On Friday, Sept. 22, the opening ceremony was attended by the 96 adults and children who make up this church as well as many villagers. THREE new converts received Jesus after our Pastors preached God’s Word to the village crowd. FORTY FIVE (45) of the church members received water Baptism! FOOD TEAM BUSY WITH DISTRIBUTIONS TO ORPHANS The first 2 weeks of each month are our busiest, as we distribute over 60 tons of corn and beans to orphans in 26 villages. In July, I stated that what goes into our barn must now go out. Our teams will continue this routine through November so that over 1,800 orphans in Balama and the 525+ orphans in Meluco Districts do not go hungry. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EVER FAITHFUL HELPING HAND SO THAT THESE LITTLE ONES HAVE WHAT THEY NEED. Blessings, Bush Bunny Brenda Lange And the Balama Staff |
